Our History

The story of a Toulouse-made app that brings people together, in real life.

The starting point

Frimake, the app tomake friends near you

Frimake did not start with a stroke of genius, but with something many people feel: it has become hard to make friends and to find someone to go out with. Here is how Frimake, an app for outings and friendly meetups, became the meeting point for more than a million Frimakers.

  1. It started with a simple fact: loneliness

My name is Alae El Hayyate and I am the Founder of Frimake.

I am not going to tell you that the idea for Frimake fell on me like magic. It came from looking around me.

Around me, I saw so many people suddenly find themselves alone. After a divorce, when the couple’s circle of friends splits. After a job transfer, in a city where you know no one. Or simply because friends are never free at the same time.

Many people live with that loneliness in silence. And the consequences can be heavy.

It is a real scourge that has grown worse in our “all-digital” era, which pulls us away from the people close to us, our friends, our neighbours… on the pretext that we interact through “likes” and “notifications”.

Faced with that, I told myself that our smartphones should no longer exist only to keep us behind a screen.

Instead, they should “connect” us online so we can “disconnect” in real life.

  2. Too many screens, not enough real moments

Our phones keep us linked to the people we care about, through likes, stories and notifications. But a like does not replace a coffee on a terrace, a walk, or an evening with friends.

I asked myself a simple question: what if our phones were no longer part of the problem, but part of the solution?

  3. How Frimake was born

I spent months on the project, working like an ant to offer you Frimake, with one goal: make easy what no longer is. Suggest an outing, find people who want the same thing, and actually meet.

That is how Frimake was born: an app for going out, meeting new people and building a circle of friends, whether you have just arrived in a new city or you simply want to widen your circle.

  4. Why the name Frimake?

Frimake is short for “Friends Makers”, which you could translate as “the friend makers”.

Because that is exactly what we do: create chances to meet, to step out of the everyday, and to make new connections.

Today there are more than

one million

people

who enjoy their lives and use Frimake to go out, meet people and step out of their comfort zone.

They started as strangers. All they needed was a chance to meet.
